Here, at last in Leitrim and the north/west of Ireland we are looking no further than our own backyards to understand our Future.
The Future is Local- A Sustainable Living Showcase

At The Dock Arts Centre
Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim
At this event there are 4 characteristics undeniable to anyone.
It’s Unique- over 20 stallholders, holistic healers and small to medium sustainable industries under one roof.
It’s Urgent-never before have we such detail about the state of economy ( keynote speaker Richard Douthwaite-economist ) or the grave state of the Irish environment ( keynote speaker Paul Cunninghan RTE’s Environmental Correspondent author of the book Ireland’s Burning)
It’s Useful-Find out about the healing art of reiki and reflexology (keynote speaker Anne Cox). Discover where our Ancient Sacred Sites are in the northwest (keynote speaker Mike Croghan). Understand the goodness of simple foods (keynote speakers Andy Smith, Ollie Moore, Gaby Weiland, and Dr Prannie Rhatighan). Collect ideas for school and community gardening as well as planting your own home, backyard farm ( keynote speakers Andy Halliwell, Ingrid Foley).
It’s Ultra Specific - Listen to the talk about re-construction of the walls of stone cottages and other building details (keynote speaker Marcus McCabe), Learn more about solar and wind power(keynote speaker Jim Dowd), Be amazed at what the human mind can dream up ( keynote speaker architect Dominic Stevens) Appreciate new understanding about learning efficiency which can help both the underlying causes of behaviours and enable the creation of an effective, drug-free programme to address them( keynote speaker Sean Callagy)
details for the two day schedule will be post be Friday October 5th 2008
There is no room for any more keynote speakers but we still have some space for healers and therapists, as well as some stalls for small businessness-crafts and clothes are welcomed!
